The Force of Decisions

Every human being has six basic needs:
Your life is controlled by the force of your decisions. The most important decision you can make is to exist in a beautiful state of mind. Pain is external, but suffering is internal. You can end internal suffering by focusing on something bigger than yourself. Trade your expectation for appreciation, and learn to appreciate this moment.
Reflection and Discussion:
Revisit this module, and spend time letting the message sink in. There is enough here to keep studying for years!
Of the six basic human needs, what would you say are your top two? The ones you value the most...
Do you feel that any of the six basic needs are lacking in your life? If so, which one?
If you answered yes to the previous question, why do you feel that way? What specifically do you think would help you experience more of that thing?
What are the top two needs that you feel are fulfilled specifically by your job?
What about at home? What needs are fulfilled with your family? Your friends?
Imagine you're having a problem with someone close to you, like a spouse or family member, or best friend. Ask yourself, which of the six basic human needs do you fulfill for them? Is it possible you could do more for them? If you could, do you think it would improve the relationship?
The concept of mindfulness, or focusing on the present moment, is gaining popularity right now but it's also becoming more a more difficult to practice in a distracted society. Think of the last time something didn't go as planned, and how changed your experience (in most cases for the worse) of that situation. What might have been different had you approached it with no expectation, and instead appreciated the experience for what it was and did your best, moment to moment? Anything?
Suffering (which happens in the mind) is a result of "me worrying about me." How can you distance yourself from this kind of suffering?
What are the things in your life that are bigger than you? Organize them and pick your top three.
Can you imagine what might happen in you thinking if you approached each focused on those three things, and what would be best for them?
- Certainty (security)
- Uncertainty (variety)
- Significance
- Love
- Growth
- Contribution
